Floyd County 4‑H Youth Gain Skills and Success at Georgia Junior National Livestock Show

ROME, GA — Seasonal traditions often mark the rhythm of the year: football in the fall, “Spring Training” in the spring, summer vacations, and the crisp chill of winter. In the livestock community, however, the cycle never truly pauses. Each season brings new responsibilities and opportunities, from the birth of spring lambs to turning a heifer out to pasture after a strong show season.

Many people see the polished appearance of animals in the show ring without realizing the months of preparation behind those moments. Exhibitors begin well before show day, selecting or raising their animals and committing to daily care. Their routines include feeding, training, grooming, and building trust. This work teaches responsibility, patience, and dedication. For show animals, the process becomes even more rigorous, with structured feeding programs and intensive grooming schedules that help youth develop real-world agricultural skills.

Recently, 10 members of the Floyd County 4‑H Livestock Show Team demonstrated those skills at the Georgia Junior National Livestock Show in Perry, Georgia. Each participant gained hands-on experience that extends far beyond the show ring. While the team celebrated a successful weekend of competition, the true value lies in the confidence, work ethic, and lifelong lessons these young people carry forward.

Floyd County 4‑H is proud of the commitment shown by its exhibitors and grateful for the community support, volunteers and parents that help make these opportunities possible.

Exhibitors include Levi Grisham, Tucker Grisham, Ella Holbert, Maggie Holbert, Emma Ratliff, Jodi Ray, Hannah Rush, Luke Rush, Maia Rush, and Allie Woody.
