Silver Creek Trail Extension to Lindale

Proposal to continue the Heritage Trail network that is actively used for recreation, transportation, and fitness. Specifically, the proposal seeks to expand the trail system south from the end of the Silver Creek Trail at East 12th Street roughly 3.6 miles to terminate in Lindale at Maple and North 1st Streets. 

Proposed location: Abandoned Norfolk Southern Railway south from East 12th Street to Maple and N. 1st Street.

Status Updates

10.21.2025 - Norfolk Southern has verbally agreed to provide appraisal in 2025 on abandoned rail line from East 12th to Lindale. Multiple delays with project since 2019. The Rome-Floyd Land Bank has donated a parcel adjacent to the trail on E. 20th for a future trailhead.

9.23.2025 - Norfolk Southern merged with Union Pacific. Anticipate possible delays, but no indication at present.

1.30.2024 - No ETA on completion for official corridor appraisal. This project funding was split 50/50 with The City of Rome.

 11.17.2023 - Norfolk Southern is finalizing surplus process and appraisals as of May 2023.
